In 2005, we saw Dr. Dre’s protégé, The Game, re-open the doors for west coast hip hop.  His induction made it immediately apparent that there was more talent waiting to be exposed from the seemingly dormant west coast rap scene. Melo Kán emerged as a forerunner of this “New West” scene in 2001. Born and raised in Southern California, Melo prepared to tell his tale from the streets of Rialto, Compton, and South Central L.A.

Fusing an eclectic blend of passion and insightful lyricism, Melo creates a sound that resonates universally.  To put it simply, Melo is not an artist created in a demographic vacuum. His stories of struggle and triumph transcend age, race, and demographic barriers and serve as inspiration to a generation lacking any definitive leadership. His artistry stands out in an industry of sameness as he pushes the limits of creativity while balancing the needs of his listeners who crave much more than just a short sugar high.  Melo says, “Nobody makes albums that people can still listen to years down the line anymore. I strive to make records so complete that ten years later when you listen, you’ll say damn I wish brotha’s still made records like this!” Similar to early rap pioneers such as Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and Grandmaster Flash; there is a message in Melo’s music.  While he believes music should be fun, he also believes it should address socioeconomic issues of the time.  Melo says “I was told when I get my turn to speak; I should have something important to say.”  With songs like “So Cold” off 2007’s EPU album, where Melo addresses the despondent issues of homelessness and “H.A.T.E”, also off  EPU, where he deliberates on the racial divisiveness in America; Melo definitely provides a voice that Hip Hop is in desperate need of.

Melo’s grind is a result of pure dedication and shear will at times. With no assistance from managers or investors, Melo continues to come up with innovative ways to push his music and brand to the public. He is currently working tirelessly on his next album The Heart of the City, which is being produced solely and entirely by industry renowned THX.  Melo says “I feel like this album is going to take me where I need to be. Not only is it some of my best material, but the level of musicianship going into this project will definitely leave the listener with a feeling of satisfaction.”  With all of Melo’s accomplishments, and intentions, the question still remains; are people really ready for an artist like Melo? Influenced by The Notorious B.I.G., Big L, Jay-Z, Eminem, & Nas, Retro attempts to take bits and pieces from these artists to create his own original style. Born as the son of a rapper, Retro's father, Retro Has Been Recording Over Beats Since The Age Of 5. His great interest in 90s Hip Hop and general dislike for today's sound also plays a significant role in his overall sound. Daeshawn Ballard (born February 14, 1992) who goes by LiL-D Da Prince is a Pittsburgh, Pa rapper. He is a sophomore in college on a full academic scholarship making his dreams of becoming a world famous Hip-Hop artist a reality. The name LiL-D Da Prince was given to a twelve year old Daeshawn Ballard  by his father/manager Big Meach, which serves as a conglomerate of different qualities, characteristics and aspirations Daeshawn has. For example, the first four letters LiL-D stands for legend, inspiring, lethal, desiring etc.  An amazing and talented young man, he is going somewhere – Peter Yarrow (Peter Paul and Mary)

The First year of college means a fresh start to many young adults, but to LiL-D Da Prince it meant to continue and build. Following the success of his first mixtape Goodmorning Goodnight, he did just that, with starting his second mixtape Freshman 15 (which is slated to drop late 2011).

Taking advantage of talent shows, open mic nights(with the accompaniment of a live band), performing for fraternities and landing contracts from the university to perform all the while promoting this new mixtape Freshman 15, LiL-D Da Prince has been drawing large crowds and setting records for attendance.

In 2011 Da Prince was voted Best Hip-Hop Artist: Under 21, in Pittsburgh, after losing to took Best Hip-Hop Artist under 21 in Pittsburgh, after losing to Mac Miller the year before and Wiz Khalifa two years before that. Starting at age twelve, Da Prince dropped his first song and video with the help of his Father/Manager Big Meach. Having a 3 CD career behind him, Big Meach saw it was time to invest in the future and put LiL-D Da Prince as the front runner of his label L.E.U Entertainment. It was a choice that proved right, seeing his son perform at dozens of venues for thousands of people, for the community with Mr. Peter Yarrow (performed at Obamas inauguration) alongside the youth. Da Prince performed for Doug .E Fresh and Dead Prez as well as received an award by the mayor of his city for community performances. Lastly he was a part of a black youth leadership program alongside actors and C.E.Os to speak with the black youth, his own age (9th to 12th grade).

With the release of his upcoming project Freshman 15, LiL-D Da Prince has ambitions to tour, get his music scored, into video games and commercials, and ultimately get signed to a major record label to further his career and take him to the next level, which he, his believers (family, friends and fans) and his city are confident he is ready for. Atlanta native Mr.285 was born in a city where artists thrive to expose their various musical talents. Born Dontea Banks aka MR 285.  MR 285 has been all around the city Atlanta in promoting his music hence the name MR 285 has stuck with him since I-285 is a circular Interstate highway around the city of Atlanta.

Opening Stage Acts. MR 285s rap career started at the age of 12.  As an up and coming artist, MR 285 opened for JT Money (Rap/Hip Hop Artist) at a show in Florida while still enrolled in grade school in Atlanta, GA. He also performed along side of D4L (Rap/Hip Hop Group) for a charitable event hosted by: Hosea Feed the Hungry (non-profit organization) at Atlantas own Turner Field.

Kuntry Klub Music, LLC. In the fall of 2009, Kuntry Klub Music discovered MR 285 at an Open Mic show and immediately recognized his is now the force behind his marketing and promotion.  MR 285 has shot music videos, been involved in several photo shoots and worked with a whos who of producers around the Atlanta area:  JSky (88 Grand Ent) , Jason (BeatSmith Production), ANT (Atlanta Music Productions)  and The B.A.L.L. Foundation (Kuntry Klub Music).

Current Ventures. MR 285 is currently marketing his new single Louis, Gucci, Prada which is being played on V-103 (Atlanta, GA Radio Station). He continues to push his career further by performing as a solo artist at clubs such as Club Bankhead, Wax, Club Frequency, Club Texano, Oceans 66, Club Crucial, Pin Ups, and more

Public Image. There are several DJs in the Atlanta area that know MR 285 from his creative music and fiery performances thus he is still asked to perform at several Open-Mic and clubs throughout the month.

Philanthropy. MR 285 has a pretty intense schedule as an artist and loves working community and private events.  He hosted the third annual Swimsuits and Stilettos and performed in front of a crowd of cheering children at Atlantas Toys of Tots.  MR 285 also performed at the Home Team Day 3 sponsored by Home Team Apparel, as well as the Youth Spring Break Community Bash.

If determination were measured with an unsigned artist, then naming himself after a well traveled interstate in Atlanta, GA would fit MR 285 as he has traveled miles around Atlanta determined to push his music to various audiences.

Influence of Music. MR 285 creates music because of his love of the Arts, thus this is his way of expressing what he has been through to various audiences.  MR 285 states that music is his life.  Without music I would not know where I would be today.   Creating music is great because its a good way of expressing things thats on my mind at any given time.  Whether your dancing, singing, rapping or by spoken word its Awesome, states MR 285.

As audiences hear the artist MR 285, he hopes to convey the message that no matter how much people tell you that its not possible to chase your dreams, you can! Stay passionate and keep striving to be the best at whatever it is that you strive to do. MR 285 mentions that the legendary Tupac Shakur inspired his rap career because he also wrote about how he felt about certain situations that affected his life at the time.

The young man who would be known as Kirby THAHOTTEST, was born to a single mother on February 22, 1987. As the youngest of four boys, Kirby often found himself relegated to the sidelines of any group action, no matter what that action might actually be.  From this vantage point he watched and learned.  The game was played out before him in vivid living color.  He quickly internalized the Dos and Donts of the streets. Poetry became an early outlet, an expression of all that he experienced.  He often wanted to speak, but he felt he was never heard.  His poetry became his passion, and the words he wove together garnered attention.  He felt that through his words, committed to

paper, he had a voice that would make people listen.

Growing up in Detroit was a difficult proposition at best. Being young, he was touched by much, but still very insulated.  He was surrounded by people that loved him, cared for him, and got him through the worst, the things that threatened to break through his insulation, and do him harm. Kirby always had a good ear.  He worked to perfect his ability to listen.  He was a quick learner, and fast became wise to the ways of the streets.  He had a vision for himself, and it did not include the dark ties of the nighttime hustle.  He would always be true to who he was and from whence he came, but given his talents, he knew there was a future in the story being told, packaged, and then sold.  At 14 his family relocated to Atlanta.  Kirby arrived with dreams, energy, and a strong desire to succeed.

The streets had intruded into Kirbys life on more than one occasion. He was a child of the North and South, and in his mind swirled a maelstrom of deeply rooted, heated words and images.  These words and images connected many facets of a young mans life.  Being deeply spiritual, Kirby was able to defy the worst parts of the hustle.  He knew deep inside he was better than average.  He knew he had what was necessary in order to withstand the negative forces surrounding him.

As time went by Kirby found himself living in a household with seven other kids.  His mother is currently raising eleven children. Things only got harder for Kirby and his family.  The daily grind of life's struggles continued to intrude into his existence, sometimesviolently.  For Kirby, this was simply more gristle for the storied storm in his mind.  His poetry gave rise to music, and his music became a vivid representation of the struggle on the streets, crime, drugs, money and hos.  Having seen so much, he came to firmly believe

the only thing promised to a man is death, so a man must be committed to living life to the fullest, with a deep, abiding respect and love for God.  This is how Kirby lives.

Music has now become Kirbys metaphor for life. The words from the storm in his mind combined with mood altering music became his personal escape.  He came to understand his passion, and to seek fulfillment within the confines of his gift.  He knew with certainty that it would be a far better thing to live average doing

what he loved, than to live rich, spending a lifetime doing something he hated.

Kirby was his given name.  When he blessed the microphone with his words he turned heads, literally commanding people to stop and listen. And listen they did, eagerly, deeply, often saying, Damn, that lil dude gon be HOT!  In high school, on the streets, on the court, wherever Kirby encountered a crowd, and a beat was to be found, he blessed those there gathered with his words, again, and again eliciting the comment, Damn, thats HOT!  As Kirby considered it, the creation of his name seemed like a natural progression, just the next step in his growth.  He was Kirby.  And he was damn sure the hottest around.  And so, Kirby THAHOTTEST was born.
